Unofficial Top 10 of 2009

My list changes every day, as much of 2009 was hit-or-miss for me. But I did genuinely love my picks for #1 and #2.

01. 'The Hurt Locker'
02. 'Star Trek'
03. 'Up in the Air'
04. 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'
05. 'Inglourious Basterds'
06. 'An Education
07. 'A Serious Man'
08. 'A Single Man'
09. 'In the Loop'
10. 'Bright Star'

Underrated gem:

'The Informant!' -- Matt Damon's Best Actor snub still stings.

Thanks, but no thanks:

'Avatar' -- fun as a spectacle, but i felt this defied top 10 placement due to its sheer ... I don't know what. It was both fun and ridiculous at the same time, but definitely not Oscar-worthy.

'Precious' -- wonderful performances in otherwise uneven and poorly directed film.

Glad to see you're updating again, Andy :)

Do you think you'll be able to keep up with the blog at least a little more frequently? I mean, it must say something that you left for 9 months without warning and you still maintain a loyal following!

Can't say that 2009 exactly bowled me over as far as movie's go. I liked "A Single Man," "Star Trek," "Harry Potter," was ambivalnt about "Julie and Julia" (although Streep was superb) really disliked "District 9."

I have higher hopes for 2010 -- for one thing Mike Leigh will have a new movie starring Horace Slughorn and Delores Umbridge -- make that Jim Broadbent and Imelda Staunton.

Nice to know Andy is still with us -- hope you won't abandon this blog totally.

I'll try my best to blog every now and again. Right now I'm having fun playing catch-up.

But, again, I can't keep up with predictions and daily coverage and stuff.

Sigh. I've missed this place.

Special mention for being way too awesome to be contained on a list: Inglourious Basterds.

Unfortunately, you're wrong. Avatar was ground breaking and spectacular. 20 years from now, no one will remember what The Hurt Locker even was. Avatar, however, will live on forever.

Avatar was completely overrated. The more i think about it, the more i hate it. Honestly, it's Dances With Wolves with blue aliens on a different planet.

Wow. You've been off before, but this takes the cake. Avatar and Precious are easily 2 of the Top 5 films of the year. Avatar is one of the top films ever! The fact that you have Bright Star(!?) in the Top 10 and not these 2 boggles the mind.
