Earlier today I was thinking about the winners, and I realized that despite a mediocre Oscar race, we ended the 2008 season with a strong group of acting winners.
But how well do they compare do the other Oscar-winners from this decade?
Though many names here belong to extraordinary actors, far too many of these seems to be... lesser works. Tough call. 2002? 2005? Hell, 2008? I don't know.
Best Lineup: -2007 -2008 Good Lineup : -2002 -2003 Iffy: -2000 (I prefer Bardem and Burstyn/Linney instead Crowe and Roberts) -2005 (I prefer Ledger and Collins Jr.-Ironic the most snubbed and best performance from Capote- instead Hoffman and Clooney) -2004 (A weak year of nominees even with interesting contenders) Bad Lineup: -2006 (Worse that 2004) Awful Lineup: -2001 (Broadbent win for the wrong performance and the other three… MEH!!)
1. Marion Cotillard, La Vie en Rose: Every time I see the film I'm still surprised by her outstading performance. One of the most deserving Oscars. 2. Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight: He SHOULD win in 2006, but still is great as the Joker. Only Michael Shannon is equally good. 3. Sean Penn, Milk: His first Oscar should be in 1996, but this prize is deserving. 4. Charlize Theron, Monster: Fantastic portrair. 5. Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood: I prefer Viggo Mortensen, but he's easily my runner-up. 6. Kate Winslet, The Reader: I still think her best performance is in ESOTSM, but I love her Hanna Schmidt 7. Benicio Del Toro, Traffic: I'm not a fan of the film, but Del Toro is thumbs up. 8. Rachel Weisz, The Constant Gardener: With only a few scenes she steals the show. 9. Nicole Kidman, The Hours: Again, I prefer Julianne Moore that year, but Kidman is a good winner. 10.Macy Gay harden, Pollock: The Most Pleasant surprises of the recent history
My thoughts on 2007: I am yet to see La Vie En Rose... I think Tommy Lee Jones was better than Javier Bardem... While I love Tilda Swinton, I was not crazy Michael Clayton or any performance in it (with the exception of Tom Wilkinson)
Daniel Day-Lewis... no argument. Next to David Thewlis in Naked, this is the performance I think of when I think of brilliance.
All I have to say is it's definetly 2007. Daniel Day Lewis and Bardem alone make it a better year than any of the others. I think 2002 would have been my next choice.
I vote for 2007 any day. The first year in God knows how long that the four acting winners were also my favorites. There's really no arguing with Plainview/Piaf/Crowder/Chigurh lineup.

2007, clearly. Day-Lewis, Cotillard, Swinton and Bardem? How can you argue with that?
Kidman. Brody. Zeta-Jones. Cooper.
Best group of winners this decade has had. I don't disagree with any of the wins.
2002, 2007 and 2008 are all very strong, but DDL... Marion... Javier... TILDA... *votes*
GOD I despise 2005's, even though Rachel Weisz is my favorite acting win of the decade.
I voted 2007. That lineup is just ... incredible. Like, you cannot find fault with it.
High five.
Yeah, 2007 although judging by the vote thus far, 2006 would have to qualify as the most underrated.

Hey girl, did you like the show? My favourite was 2007.
