Much better choice to stay home in light of the movies you have chosen to watch. "When a man loves a woman" takes a sensitive and realistic look at alcoholism and how it truly impacts ones' family life. Good choice.
i'm really upset about coraline no longer beign 3D because i didn't get a chance to see it yet :(.
this weekend i re-watched mystic river, lars and the real girl and about a boy. mystic river just seemed really heavy handed and did not age well...watching lars and the real girl and about a boy again (for maybe the 10th time each) just re-iterated the fact that both ryan gosling and hugh grant were horribly snubbed in their respective years.
About a Boy, great movie one of my favorites and the best Hornby novel adapted to the screen with High Fidelity a very close second. For some reason I can rewatch both those movies over and over and not get tired of them.
Im probaly going to watch The International tonight might as well support my man crush Clive Owen, he is the man.
It's cool how we all talk about women with the utmost respect ("I love Meg Ryan. I wish she had been nominated for Sleepless in Seattle!") but as soon as someone mentions Clive Owen we all melt like butter and want to know where he gets his hair done. Clive Owen makes me melt like butter, but I've got to say, Hugh Grant does nothing for me.
And if you missed out on Coraline in 3D, you MISSED OUT, man. It's so daunting to think that, outside of a rerelease years down the road, I may never get to see that movie in its intended glory again. If this year remains as good as that movie has led me to believe it will be, I'm going to throw myself into a volcano to appease the movie gods.
Remember? Andy is a god that descends from the mountain to give us some semblance of guidance every day or two and we spend the next 24-48 hours musing over his teachings and slaughtering the neighboring nations (ie: blogs) in his name.
I don't care how big the Jonas Brothers movie is, I would still beat them up if given the chance. Especially if I were allowed to strap rocks to my fists.
Clive Owen is not a bad actor at all how dare you say that about my man crush, lol. Just kidding, but seriously Children of Men, Colser he was awsome in those movies. And when he sports that 5 o'clock shadow he looks bad ass. Oh and by the way The International was a preatty good flick. A b or b-, but entertaining none the less.
Oh and I just found out that the Lowes Matreon here in San Francisco is still playing Coraline in 3D. Surprisingly there not showing JB, so im going to hurry and go catch it some time this week.
I have seen Let the Right One In, Anonymous and it was one of my favorite movies of last year. I intend on buying the DVD when it comes out next week. If there's anyone else in the Austin area, Coraline is still playing in 3D at the Galaxy Highland Theater. Seems all 10 of their projectors are 3d equipped!
That loud noise you heard is that of the Jonas Brothers "concert" movie tanking -- and badly. Originally projected to have an opening weekend of around $40 million preliminary weekend box office reports indicate that it will be lucky to finish with $13 million.
so imdb has jonas brothers at #2 with 12.7...ah, how wonderful! perhaps that movie will not last too much longer (you know it's going to take an even bigger hit next weekend) and maaaaybe by popular demand, they'll bring coraline back to 3D! ...a boy can dream, right?
Once final figures are in on Monday it is within the realm of possibility that the Joans Brothers movie will even finish in third place the mere $550,000 that currently separates it from "Slumdog."
Oh, that Anonymous posting at 1:10 was mine. Don't know why it did not post my screen name.
I would love to be able to post as my own name not anon but I can't remember my logon. I have been reading and posting on here for a few years now and read this site every day.
I am from Australia and I am female and I am going to sign my posts as Kez so that I feel like you guys know when it is me posting and not some random person. I feel like I know the regulars on here.
Sorry, I just can't help not being a fan of Clive Owen but to balance the scales I love Keanu Reeves. LOL!!! There you go.
Thanks Chris I wanted to hear if anyone else liked 'Let the Right One In' or was I just plain weird.
Mine is Batman. There's a lot of blood behind him and he looks like he's jumping forward, so I like to think that maybe he just jumped through someone, tearing them in half, like a concert pianist or someone lame like that. Then he saw the camera man and was like "you think you can just take a picture of me? I'm the darn Batman!" and the last thing that the camera man saw was my picture. I think it gives my internet profile some character.
hey everyone, I just go into a spirited arguement with someone abou the ending to No Country for old men. Which I happen to think is a perfect ending.
what's everyone's least favourite ending?
Mine is 'The MAn who wasn't there', which is great up until...it ends...and then keeps going....for another hour....and then ends...again...and again..and then ends..
Oh, Jesus, man. The Man Who Wasn't There is a goddamn masterpiece. Every second of every minute of that film is perfect. If I weren't too worried about crowding my Top Ten Films with too many Coen Brothers movies, The Man Who Wasn't There would make my top ten of all time.
Mine is The Boondock Saints. I hate everything about that movie. I hate EVERYTHING about that movie. But the end was the boiling point. I wanted to put my foot through the television. That sort of trailer park philosophy is the sort of thing that I find infuriating just to think about, and I never imagined anyone held it as an actual belief. But to see characters portrayed as moral crusaders because they slaughter people that break their personal code of ethics.
The two leads in that film actually have a lot in common with Rorschach, but instead of being portrayed as a couple of morally reprehensible thugs they're portrayed as SAINTS. Seriously, it's on the back of the DVD.
The American judicial system is an impartial, yet ultimately very effective, system and is, for all intents and purposes, the villain of the story. It's pathetic. You just know the writer was investing so much of his personal philosophies into that film that it gives away his biggotry and foolishness.
I have nothing against saying: "Vigilantism: is there a place for it in society?". That's a legitimate question to ask an audience. But there's a difference between asking the question (which the contrived credits sequence tries half-heartedly to convince us was the goal of the film) and saying "Look at these SAINTS. Crusading for GOD. Murdering people who manage to circumnavigate the American justice system."
Maybe it's because I'm against capital punishment, and I think it turns our government into a bunch of crybaby thugs, but this movie made me want to find Troy Duffy, the colossal dickhead that he is (no surprise there) and surgically replace his heart with a cactus.
It's a movie for idiots.
Whoo, sorry, fellas. Went off there a bit. Thinking about that movie gets my blood pumping.
I'm soooooooo soooo with you on Boondock Saints. What really pisses me off is how many people revere it simply because there's a lot of shooting in it :P
If I put a lot of murder in a film, then justified the bloodlust with some shitty, tacked-on philosophy that took me an entire trip to the bathroom to come up with, people would revere me for years to co--wait a second, let me write this down.
Andy's the father and I'm the mother. Anton is the talking dog with an IQ of 160 who we keep trying to sell to a sweaty circus executive (NFB) but who keeps outsmarting the bumbling humans.
18 is the rich uncle who tells us tales of his trips to magical, imaginary kingdoms called Los Angeles.
Colin is the level-headed son whose parents are very proud of him, but he's secretly involved with the most unsavory kind of Czechoslovakian. His life ends when he's shot to death in his car, an incident that the police brush off as "competition from another Board of Education".
Brightside is the cool, sunglass-wearing Canadian nephew whose live fast, die young lifestyle I have come to envy and half-heartedly copy, resulting in some wacky antics (such as the first time I hear the term and don't hear anything but the "die young" part, resulting in a jump out of the second-story window and a twisted ankle and a mid-life crisis).
Devin is the neighbor and my personal rival. We have chairs set up at adjacent windows so we can stare menacingly at eachother for hours on end.
At the beginning of each year, I often find myself listing off a lot of people I'd like to see nominated in my favorite category. I might forget a couple, but here is what I have off the top of my head.
Best Supporting Actor: Jeff Daniels - Away We Go Christopher Plummer and Tom Waits - The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus B.J. Novak and Eli Roth - Inglorious Basterds Christian Bale and Billy Crudup - Public Enemies Garrett Dillahunt, Robert DuVall, and Guy Pearce - The Road Jackie Earle Haley, Ben Kingsley, Elias Koteas, Mark Ruffalo, and Max von Sydow - Shutter Island Liev Schrieber - Taking Woodstock Billy Crudup and Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Watchmen
Okay, so I left off about thirty names, but you get the idea. I'd be happy to see two of these people nominated.
oh it's a long boring thing. But I've basically been developing a teaching method that I think helps build confidence in students and their ability to learn, and good social skills. It involves more group oriented assignments and learning a student's strengths and weaknesses early.
Trouble is, it requires smaller classes, which means more teachers, so my job will be to visit the government of whichever country I pick, I haven't decided yet. And I have to bring along my own teachers, then we go to schools and break down the classes into smaller groups, and my hope is that we can improve literacy and broaden worldviews to the point that in two years, if my research works, I will be able to return and get a major expansion, and get to test it on...*crossed fingers* whole nations.
Long road ahead, plenty of people before me have tried and failed, but big ideas have small starts..or some Plato crap
About my reaction. Damn. Maybe it's because I'm ABSOLUTELY FANATICAL about the book, but I'm a touch disappointed. If only it had been four hours long, then they could have done a damn good job of getting the book into a movie. Admirable job, but not the perfect film I hoped for.
The entire look of the film is something to behold. The fight scenes will make you shit your pants. But a lot of thing don't work. The Comedian's backstory doesn't work, for example. Moves too fast. Doc Manhattan's, on the other hand, does work. In fact, I'd say it was my favorite part of the film.

Rewatching all the Watchmen trailers and reading the book again.
It's a damn shame that all the 3D theaters are playing the Jonas Brothers instead of Coraline. What a damn shame.
ugh I was hoping that the JB movie would flop... Wishful thinking.
I saw The 'International' yesterday and quite enjoyed it. A bit long though I started to get fidgety.
Clive Qwens didn't seem so wooden - he must be improving.
Last night I saw 'Let the Right One In'has anyone else seen it? A strange little movie but I enjoyed it.
Much better choice to stay home in light of the movies you have chosen to watch. "When a man loves a woman" takes a sensitive and realistic look at alcoholism and how it truly impacts ones' family life. Good choice.
What ever happened to Meg Ryan?
I read JoBros are in jeopardy of finishing 2nd to Madea. I think it only made $5 million last night?
And Meg Ryan's career went in the toilet when she hooked up with Russell Crowe. Well, plus the plastic surgery bout ...
I still think she should have been nominated for both 'When Harry Met Sally ... ' and 'Sleepless in Seattle.' But I'm crazy.
i'm really upset about coraline no longer beign 3D because i didn't get a chance to see it yet :(.
this weekend i re-watched mystic river, lars and the real girl and about a boy.
mystic river just seemed really heavy handed and did not age well...watching lars and the real girl and about a boy again (for maybe the 10th time each) just re-iterated the fact that both ryan gosling and hugh grant were horribly snubbed in their respective years.
About a Boy, great movie one of my favorites and the best Hornby novel adapted to the screen with High Fidelity a very close second. For some reason I can rewatch both those movies over and over and not get tired of them.

I don't like Clive Owen at all he is not a good actor he always sounds so bored but as I said above he is a bit better in The International.
Can I repeat my question - has anyone else seen Let the Right one In? Just wanted to hear another opinion.
JB movie is number 1 - ugh!
I haven't seen it.
And Clive Owen isn't a bad actor. He excels at playing a certain character type just like Jack Nicholson or Christian Bale.
Yeah, JB looks to have a much weaker than expected opening, and that Medea movie looks like it will take a major hit in its second week. Life is good.
JB is gonna win this weekend with a slight edge. It should have a pretty good Saturday (With matinees and stuff)...
And when was the last time we judged Andy?
Remember? Andy is a god that descends from the mountain to give us some semblance of guidance every day or two and we spend the next 24-48 hours musing over his teachings and slaughtering the neighboring nations (ie: blogs) in his name.

You could just register with Google Blogger. Then you could have a blue name with a neat picture next to it.
Children of Men.
I never thought of putting a picture next to my name. Good Idea.
Here it is the Boca Juniors logo. The true greastest football(soccer) team in alll the land, lol.
I would be nice if you signed up Kez
there aren't very many blue namers on this site.

That it does Burn. Its a real badass picture of Batman.
Everyone else should have really lame pictures of Robin, just so that you know that I'm the best.
Oooh, here's a good one.

we should co-write something...a film where lawyers sing The Supremes and ducks fire ray guns and nothing's the way it seems...
or a cop movie..people like cop movies
Step 1: Write cop movie.
Step 2: Collect your money.
Ok everybody!
I'm off to New York to make a big presentation to the Institute of International Education which could make or break 3 years of hard, endless work.
Wish me luck!
P.S why am I telling you this?
we discuss the oscars a year before they happen. We're basically family :P
Good luck, man. Make us proud.
Good luck.
Oh and I hope you get to enjoy the big city.

Liev Schrieber - Taking Woodstock
Billy Crudup and Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Watchmen
Okay, so I left off about thirty names, but you get the idea. I'd be happy to see two of these people nominated.
That would be so cool if Tom Waits got an Oscar nomination.
so the family totally made my day. brilliant!
Burn, you write it and I'll get it made.
And I have a feeling Jackie Earle Haley is gonna be a contender in BSA for Shutter Island.
And I'm just the rich uncle? Urgh...
Hey thats better than being the broke and drunken uncle. The whole talking dog thing funny, lol.
Did I forget any regular posters? I hope not.
Got my tickets for Watchmen. March 6th. 10:30 PM. IMAAAAAAAAAX!
Burn, if you did that's more of a reason to write a sequel.
hey everybody
I ace'd em today :)
and I got my research funded and I'm going to spend the next two years developing education in Africa!!!!!
Enjoy Watchmen everybody!!
Congrats Colin! When are you leaving and what are you going to do to help?

You guys, it's Burns birthday today.
Happy Birthday!
Thanks, man. I haven't gotten anything good yet, aside from a beard that some girl knitted me. That was cool.
Just got back from Watchmen. Mixed feelings. Must write review later.
just saw watchmen myself -- Jackie Earle Haley is great, but the rest of the movie is a mixed bag
Hurm.
I had a small feeling it was just a good trailer
but I reserve judgement until I actually see it
The entire look of the film is something to behold. The fight scenes will make you shit your pants. But a lot of thing don't work. The Comedian's backstory doesn't work, for example. Moves too fast. Doc Manhattan's, on the other hand, does work. In fact, I'd say it was my favorite part of the film.
Maybe I liked it becuase I didn't read the graphic novels and I didn't have high expectations...Especially after 300.
