"Milk" Trailer

Well, the poster had to be taken down, but here is the official trailer.

What do you think?

ETA: I still can't get the trailer to load on Apple's website. If you're struggling, too, watch the trailer on YouTube here:

If the trailer is an indicator about the movie this one is LOCKED is so many categories! And the music from 'The Life Of David Gale" ALWAYS amazing! What a great score that was! Anyway Milk is up for many oscars!

Could this finally start to heal the Brokeback Snub wounds? I don't know- I'm still pretty pissed off by that one, but this might help.

"Might help," yes, but it doesn't look like it will be nearly as wonderful a film as Brokeback Mountain.

The trailer is superb. I can't wait to see this film. We should expect trailers for all the major fall films by the end of September. I'm still waiting for:

Revolutionary Road
Doubt
The Road
Seven Pounds
Gran Torino
The Changeling

Looks fantastic. I'm suddenly very excited for it, and very excited for Penn and Brolin's performances.

I'm sad to hear that music is reused. It's lovely. Beautiful trailer.

Same here, steven!

dead man/flowers said...

Eventually, Andy, you'll have to throw Brendan Gleeson into the mix for Into the Storm.

I'm actually a much bigger fan of the Angels in America music by Thomas Newman featured in the beginning and end. Great stuff! And oh yeah, the trailer's good too ;)

Everyone in this looks great. This might be my most anticipated film of the year, now. Might.

I was thinking, what is your (anyone who reads this) favorite Brendan Gleeson role?
Is it his character in...
28 Days Later?
A.I.?
Beowulf?
Braveheart?
Cold Mountain?
Far and Away?
Gangs of New York?
Harrison's Flowers?
the Harry Potter franchise?
In Bruges?
Kingdom of Heaven?
Lake Placid?
Michael Collins?
The Village?

or one I didn't think of?

No urgency in the matter. I just decided that he might be my favorite actor working today. He, Gary Oldman, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ralph Fiennes and several others are pretty high up there.

Into the Storm could be this years Capote. Taking a character actor and giving him the lead role in a historical tale.

I think he is perfectly casted in the HP movies (and honestly, if you think about it, those casting directors for the HP movies deserve Oscars for their work. I know its not a category but someone needs to just hand it to them. I havnt had one complaint on casting so far, and tho I would have liked to see Watts as Draco's mom, I have to see the end result to say if it could have been better. But Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Imelda Stauntin, Emma Thompson, Richard Harris, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, and I'm forgetting a lot of other ones but everyperson is amazing. The three leads are superb as well.) And my favorite Gleeson role is probably In Bruges that was an awesome movie.

In Bruges for me. I always feel like he doesn't get enough screen time to truly shine, especially in 28 Days Later and Gangs of New York. In both films he was great, I just wanted more.

I wouldn't say he's among my favorite working actors, like Robert Downey Jr., Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Viggo Mortenson, Ralph Fiennes, Christian Bale, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ray Winstone or Cillian Murphy (sorry, that list got a bit out of hand). But I certainly like him a lot. Interesting to note, he has always reminded me of Winston Churchill, even when I first saw him in Gangs of New York (maybe it was the sight of him speaking at a podium).

Looks great.

I'm glad to hear you too are such a big fan of Cillian Murphy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Between Short Cuts, Chaplin, Zodiac and Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. is quickly climbing my charts as well. James McAvoy is a very talented young actor, lets just hope he continues to make good choices. Of course Christian Bale is terrific. I'm fond of David Duchovny's deadpan humor. Edward Norton is another actor I enjoy watching. I really shouldn't have started a list. There are too many great working actors these days. Paul Dano should have a good career ahead of him.

Okay, I'm going to stop.

Nice new icon.

And is there anyone here who is so turned off by Russell Crowe's public persona that they deny him the title of one of the world's greatest actors?

Paul Bettany is another one of my favorites.

Hey, what happened to the voter polls thing?

Torso! Holy crap!

nice to hear the love outthere for Paul Dano and Joseph Gordon Levitt, who I think are both part of the next generation of truly great actors (and despite his many fluff movies and star status i'll dare to add Channing to that list after seeing a Guide to Recognizing Your Saints).

As far as Milk is concerned, I was not the least bit hopeful for that one till I saw this trailer, but this one is really "from the director of GWH", and not from the Gus van Sant weve seen for the last decade. Dont get me wrong, I love some of his films, but I didnt see how this was gonna work.

And I hate Sean Penn, and this is his first role in some time that looks like character work more than oscar bait (and Im not just talking about the obvious grandstanding in All the King's Men and I Am Sam, but also Mystic River, hat with all the crying and yelling and all that; for me Kevin Bacon was the standout because he managed to underplay throughout, not getting any "big scenes").

So count me excited for Milk too, then. Strong in best film, director, actor (fingers crossed for Gleeson here), and let's hope Brolin gets a part with some substance to it.

November 7th. Killshot finally gets a release date.

unrelated to milk BUT TIFF is well under way. i caught a screening of rocknrolla today. it is most definitely a comeback for guy ritchie, on par with snatch. probably not oscar bait (i'd love a screenplay nod but it's too much of a longshot).
guy was there to introduce it. he seemed really nervous but the audience loved the movie.

Burn After Reading said...

How long has Killshot been on the shelf? Three years? And glad to hear about Rocknrolla. Just the thing Guy Ritchie needs to get going again, although I hope he tries out some different stuff and it works out. I'm looking forward to Sherlock Holmes.

I was thinking of changing my name, now that Burn After Reading is actually coming out. It should definitely be The Goddamn something.

dead man/flowers said...

How about that right there? Something.

17 Year Old Blogger said...

Well I change my name, every year lol, but do it so that people remember you, unless this is like the only blog you go on to.

dead man/flowers said...

Al you have to do, it seems, is tell us a few times it's you. Like I did. A few people in here still remember my name.

17 Year Old Blogger said...

Well like I said, it all depends if you go out to other blogs becuase not everyone checks up on other posts...

The Goddamn Something said...

I don't really go to other blogs. Maybe casually, but no one at other blogs knows me.

And I think I might rotate periodically. The Goddamn ____. Could be anything, could change anytime! What will it be next!?

17 Year Old Blogger said...

Nothing.

I'm liking the name tho.

I'm in awe of this trailer! I think Sean can take it and I wouldn't be the tad bit upset.

The only thing I'm incredibly annoyed by is that not one fucking (out) homosexual are playing the leads!

As a gay actor who can act gay or straight or a white welsh woman in King Henry the IV Part one, I'm annoyed that gay actors cannot even play the epic roles of their own kind.

It's as if they got James Mcavoy to play Sidney Poitier!

Sure, these are amazing actors, but it's just a shame that not one of them is gay.

I know it doesn't matter, it's just important that the story is told with great actors who will execute it beautifully, but I just want to play these roles one day too.
