Weekend Screening Schedule

Two relatively big movies open this weekend.

The first is Ridley Scott's "American Gangster." It opened to good but not great reviews, which has me worried about its Oscar prospects, but I'm guessing it'll be worth seeing if only for the acting.

Also opening in theaters is the relentlessly promoted "Bee Movie." Jerry Seinfeld's animated flick fared considerably less with critics, but it could still make a strong running at the box office if there's a market out there for bees.

What do YOU plan on seeing this weekend? And for you box office enthusiasts: which movie will come out on top, American Gangster or Bee Movie?

Bee Movie is going to win becuase its a family film...American Gangster is almost 3 hours long with previews and is rated R which will not hurt it, but not place it at #1 since I'm expecting Bee Movie to make at least 40 mil. With American Gangster making a cool 28, at least.

I was surprised by the amount of people that planned on seeing American Gangster at my school, frankly. I think it has a good deal of mass appeal. It could beat out Bee Movie.

I missed all the showings of American Gangster, so we went to see Wristcutters: A Love Story, which I liked. Tomorrow I'm going to see Hamlet in Indianapolis, and when I get home I'll be seeing American Gangster. Then Sunday afternoon I'll try and sneak in Into the Wild. But if I miss that, I'll see it Monday afternoon, as I only have a half day of school.

My school did a production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and it was fucking AWFUL. This is the second high school play I've gone to in the last month, and I need to just fucking stop. I feel like such a Grinch when I say that the acting made me want to hang myself, and I have to start all my sentences with "I know my heart is a dried-up little apple of cynicism, but...". It's really quite pathetic that everyone loved it.

So I watched Before the Devil Knows youre Dead last night, and let me tell you that was one real f***ed up movie. I was left with a very bad feeling afterwards which I guess was the whole point. Let me tell all the performances were very good, Tomei was great and looked awsome. Hoffman, Hawke, and Finney did there thing and were good, but i think Tomei is the oly one with a chance at noination because of the competition in the other categories.

I agree that it was a little hard to sit through. And yes, the acting was universally solid. At this point PSH and Tomei are on my ballot.
