Angelina Jolie has the power!

Soo many snubs....Gosling, Kidman, Linney, Rusell, everybody from Into The Wild...Wow...some good nominations, and it seems that Leigh, Tomei and Blanchett are good for supporting...

Andy Scott said...

I read at Awards Daily (well..the forums) that Into the Wild was ineligible. Does anybody know if that's true?

Burn After Reading said...

Into the Wild's production budget was $15 million. I know it was filmed primarily in Alaska, and I am pretty sure that it's an American production. It should be eligible. Maybe people realized that it was not good (see my blog for details), and didn't give it anything. But even I was pulling for Hal Holbrook.

"Into the Wild" was stellar, but it wasn't eligible (was made for over $20 million according to The Envelope). "Away From Her" was a Canadian production and ineligible. But "Lars and the Real Girl" was fully eligible and royally screwed/robbed. Boooo.

I'm not sure that the Spirit Awards are the best gauge for the nominees for the AMPAS. Blanchett may be a shoo in for a nod, but I don't think this gives Leigh or Tomei a huge boost. Of the 15 nominees for Supporting Actress at the Spirit Awards over the previous three years only 3 have gone on to get an Oscar nomination. It may not hurt, but I don't think it makes them a certaintty.

Wow! Best Supporting Actor has some pretty interesting nominees-a great group. Steve Zahn winning(which will probably happen) will spoil the fun, but I'd still be a bit OK with it.

You guys wanna hear something cool? I am now a member of the Independent Spirit and can vote for the Independent Spirit Nominations...

16 Year Old Blogger said...

Too bad I didn't sign up later since I could have voted for the nominees...Damn!

So what kind of credentials do you have as a sixteen-year-old blogger to be a part of the Film Independent's voting body? Or is it as simple as paying a fee and you're in?

16 Year Old Blogger said...

Well I do have some credentials for TV but not film, but in my Broadcasting class we needed for some reason to have to get a membership, but with the membership you get to vote and get to see free movies before they come out(I'm seeing Persepolis next week) so yeah we had to pay a fee, but it was worth it and I recommend anybody who lives in LA to sign up since they have a LOT of free screenings and membership benefits...

ahhh mo Nicole Kidman (kinda saw it coming though)

I ment NO Nicole Kidman

Burn After Reading said...

That's sweet, 16. I'll have to do that when I get to LA.
