Final Predix?

I'll post my full Idol recap..........after the finale!, but in the meantime I'd like to open the floor to any last minute winner predix. Who's it gonna be, oh faithful bloggers: pretty girl Katharine McPhee or soul man Taylor Hicks?

As for me, I'll be sticking with Taylor until the bitter end, based solely on his popularity with core Idol fans and the judges. (Ok. I also peaked at the DialIdol scores. Sue me).

But then again, you never know. We could be in for yet another jaw-dropping upset (Katharine McPhee is to Idol as "Crash" is to Oscar? Time will tell. ;) )

Anyway, enjoy the finale! See you in a bit.

Taking the Long Way

Just a reminder for everyone to go out and buy the brand new Dixie Chicks CD "Taking the Long Way," which officially hits stores today.

I've heard pretty much the entire CD thanks to AOL and I must say it sounds like a keeper. So purchase, purchase, purchase! Don't let those red state, CD-smashing freaks win!! ;)

Dreamgirls Featurette

Click here to view the latest footage from Dreamworks' highly anticipated (well, around these parts, anyway...) musical "Dreamgirls".

My thoughts? Well, I can already tell I'm going to love Eddie Murphy. Beyonce and Jamie look pretty good, too. And, um, how 'bout that Jennifer Hudson? Talk about a scene...er, featurette stealer. ("Or what? ... I didn't think so!" - hot damn!)

Elliott Goes "Home"

Well, after last week's shocking results show, American Idol returned to suspensless predictability Wednesday night by expectedly ousting season 5 underdog Elliott Yamin.

Though I knew Elliott's days were numbered, especially after 3 subpar performances Tuesday night, it was still an emotional 60 minutes here at the Scott household. Yes, I cried when Elliott went back to his old pharmacy in Richmond, Virginia. I cried again when he thanked his mother in the final minutes of the telecast. I even cried when he got to throw out the first pitch at the (insert team name here) baseball game.

But what was most painful about Wednesday's show was not necessarily Elliott's departure, but rather the horrifying realization that, after months of competition, America chose Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee as season 5's top 2 finalists. Talk about a boring lineup.

To be honest, I quite liked Taylor's "You Are So Beautiful", I still fear that any post-Idol success will be greatly hindered due to his genre preference and overall weirdness. And while Katharine's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was one of the best performances of the season, it did little to prevent the thought of her butchering the sure-to-be-a-ballad American Idol song next Tuesday.

At this point, I really don't care who wins, but if I had to take a guess I'd say that in the end Taylor will come out on top. He seems to have had the strongest fan base among any contestant so far this season. But who knows. It could turn out just like last year, with the pretty girl trumping the supposed frontrunner.

Until then, we'll just have to wait and see.

A Little Less Chris Daughtry

So Chris Daughtry, season 5's hunky, boxer-brief-wearing rocker, got the boot last night in what everybody's calling the biggest shock of the season.

On a purely techincal level, the elimination was indeed a jaw-dropper. Really. If America actually placed their votes according to vocals, Katharine McPhee would've been sent packing after 2 completely awkward, completely subpar performances.

But of course, many other elements are factored into the system, and it's pretty clear that, based on the sunglasses and references to at least 5 different fan groups, Chris' ego was about ready to burst. And as we know, America likes their contestants to be a teensy bit more humble (see: Elliott). Thus, I don't think Chris' elimination was really that shocking. Unfortunate? Maybe. But shocking? Meh...

Anyway, now that we're down to the final 3 - Taylor, Katharine and Elliott - , next week's show will likely be a battle between Katharine and Elliott for the final spot - assuming Rebecca Romaijn's bizzare request to hear Taylor's "Jailhouse Rock" one last time doesn't backfire, which probably won't happen. Right now it seems like nothing will stop Taylor from winning the competition.

But what do you think? Will Katharine become America's Most Hated Idol contestent after last night's results, making way for a Taylor/Elliott final 2, or will voters feel the need to spread the wealth and give Idol's only remaining female contestant one last shot? And finally, am I right about Taylor? Is he the obvious frontrunner to win or could Elliott Yamin, the season's most likeable and adorable underdog, pull off an upset in the final showdown?

American Idol Blogging Returns...

SPOILERS for the West Coast.

So I'm a day late with my highly anticipated (ha) American Idol recap. Sorry.

But to be honest, now that we're down to the final four, I'm starting to lose interest in the spectacle that is season five. Odd, I know, considering this is the time when the competition is supposed to heat up. But as the show decreases its number of contestants, I'm finding its doing the exact same thing to my excitement level. Six, five, four...you get the idea.

Now I know what you're thinking. Katharine McPhee is still in the competition, so I should be estatic, right? Well, if these past few weeks have taught me anything it's that "Kat" is not the singer I had hoped she would be. Sure, she's beautiful (which has obviously helped to get her this far - really, have you ever heard a pro-Katharine viewer NOT comment on her unbelievable hotness?) But let's be honest, bloggers. Are her pipes really on the same level as say, past winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood's?

I say no, which is why I think my McPheever has officially cooled off.

So who's left for me to root for?

Well, Paris just got the boot, so there goes that. But I never much cared for her little girl playing dress up schtik to begin with.

Then there's Taylor, but unlike the rest of America, I'm not buying into that crap. Seriously. How in the hell are they going to market this guy if he wins? Not very well, I would imagine, since I can't see non-Idol viewers taking him seriously when half of his fans probably don't, either.

Elliott, too, would suffer from the same marketing problems. I've also been hesitant to get behind him since his wonderful dorkiness will likely keep him from winning such a shallow competition. But then again, I'd have no problem listening to him sing...well, anything. So there's option A.

Option B would obviously be Chris Daughtry since duh! He's the only contestant left. Now I really don't think the producers are going to let him put out the rocker album he wants to make, but I think it's pretty clear by now that, of all the remaining contestants, he is best...er, better package. He can sing. He can perform well. And he's pretty darn good lookin' to boot.

Now while I sit here obsessing over Elliot vs. Chris, I'd like to hear back from you. Who do you think is going to win Season 5? Who deserves to win? And is the McPheever still burning in y'all or are you over her, too?
